Electric Fence break-ins…How they happen!
There is a sense of complacency that once your perimeter security has been installed, you are safe within your garden and home. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Lapses in maintenance can certainly offer opportunities to robbers who are savvy.
Here are 8 of the most common ways home invasions happen through your electric fence, and what you can do about it.
- Your electric fence is off, hence no current is being pushed through the energiser. Obviously, the shock of the electrified wires is the deterrent to climbing over.
What to do: Have your energiser maintained often to prevent breakdowns. Secondly, install a battery backup system, so when you experience a power failure or load shedding, your fence can still continue to be effective.
- Thieves throw a rubber mat over electrified wires to insulate against the electric shock.
What to do: Include earth loops on your wires. Link your electrified fence to an alarm and to your armed response company. When the fence is tampered with, the alarm will sound.
- Thieves fold parts of a rubber hose over the electric fence wires.
